The cutting ring principle

The cutting ring principle has been continually improved over the decades and adapted to modern challenges. The Ermeto tube fittings are among the most frequently used connection systems worldwide.

The EO progressive ring fitting creates a leak-free connection of pipes and components in hydraulic systems. The safe sealing and holding function is achieved by the EO progressive ring, which penetrates into the pipe up to a structurally defined limit during assembly due to its special geometry. The progressive penetration of the ring is characterized by the fact that during assembly the front cutter (A) has already started to penetrate the tube before the second cutter (B) engages. Once the functionally intended incision has been reached for both cutting edges, further feed is limited.

Due to the geometry of the two cutting edges, any forces that occur are transmitted over the entire length of the cone in terms of strength. This distribution of forces and the specially designed inner contour at the collar end (C) of the ring result in increased safety in the case of alternating bending stresses. This dampens vibrations as soon as they enter the ring. During assembly, the special inner contour causes an increase in the tightening forces up to a noticeable fixed point (fixed assembly point). After completing the assembly, the visible raised collar (D) must fill the space in front of the first cutting edge. In the case of pipes made of stainless steel and hose connectors made of free-cutting steel, the flange bulge is lower due to the material. A slight springing of the ring (E) is desired. This spring effect permanently compensates for bending vibrations and the setting behavior in the thread of the union nut.

EO-DUR stainless steel fittings are equipped with a special progressive ring whose geometry is optimized for safe assembly with stainless steel tubing. Screw connections of the LL series and all brass screw connections are equipped with the cutting and wedge ring D.
